The National Conference "Geological Heritage: a resource to protect and enhance " held on 29 and 30 April at the Stone of Castaldi (PZ) and organized by the Department of Geological Sciences of the University of Basilicata, the SIGEA and the Order of Geologists of Basilicata, was another big step towards the promotion and dissemination of geological culture at national level.

The conference was opened by the report at the invitation of Prof. William AP Wimbledon, President of PROGEO "The European Association of the Conservation of the Geological Heritage", entitled "Geosites - A mechanism for protection, integrating national and international valuation of heritage sites, so as to reveal truly global Significance. "
Numerous and oral communications ( the program here) and posters presented, framed within less than 5 sessions :

• A - I Geosites in land use planning - Chairman Francesco Zarlenga - ENEA Rome.
• B - The Geological Heritage Protected Areas - Chairman Mario Bentivenga - Department of Geology University of Basilicata.
• C - The Geoarchaeology - Chairman Joachim Lena - geoarchaeologist.
• E - Geological Itineraries - Chairman Alessandro Iannace - Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra Università degli Studi di Napoli "Federico II".
• F - Il Patrimonio Geologico come risorsa economica - Chairman Ettore Bove - Dipartimento Tecnico-Economico per la Gestione del Territorio Agricolo-Forestale Università degli Studi della Basilicata.

Due le comunicazioni orali che la sezione pugliese della SIGEA ha avuto l'onore di presentare. Con la prima, dal titolo " Il patrimonio geologico della Puglia: iniziativa editoriale della SIGEA Puglia " comunicata da Donatello Sollitto, abbiamo voluto presentare l'ultima fatica scientifico-editoriale della nostra associazione e che presto verrà data alle stampe. Si tratta di a volume in which it is given a key to understanding the geological Puglia whole new reality, from a classification of "geological landscapes" of our region, are highlighted the uniqueness of Puglia from geological point of view, and presented a note describing some of the most representative geosites.

the last session of the conference, dedicated to the geological heritage as an economic resource, Pietro Blu Gianni made a communication "Protection and enhancement of the geological and caving - the new law local tradition and strategies land use ". During the presentation he started from the context in that gave birth to the new LR 33/2009, which protects and enhances the geological heritage and caving, and have been highlighted in the goals and strengths. In the second part of the statement we wanted to show the way forward for the effective implementation of the LR or the opportunities they offer the Regional Territorial Landscape Plan (PPTR) Puglia in the approval process, the many forms of nature conservation and biodiversity that synergy should be involved, creating a truly alternative and sustainable tourism.

The conference ended with a guided tour led by Dr. Joseph Palladino along the way that the geological SIGEA Basilicata has created together with other associations with the scientific support of the Department of Geological Sciences, University of Basilicata just Sasso Castalda.
